🎷 Andy Scott Saxophone Weekend 🎷🎷 19th - 20th October 2024 🎷

St Leonards Hotel, Ringwood, BH24 2NR

On 19th / 20th October 2024 AB Workshops hosts a two day Saxophone Weekend with Andy Scott, that is aimed equally at classical and jazz saxophonists. The weekend is set at St Leonards Hotel, a fantastic venue to spend time playing music. Andy is endorsed by Selmer Paris and Vandoren.

Playing level: As a guide, you’ll need an instrumental ability of Grade 4 standard or above. Andy creates optional easier parts for most of his saxophone ensemble compositions and arrangements, creating a great opportunity to find your level and take the music from there!

Andy was born and went to school in Poole, and during his teenage years played in loads of Youth Big Bands! Great times were had, lifelong friends made, so to lead an AB Workshops ‘at home’ is something special!

For every course that Andy directs he includes some new pieces of music, either written or arranged by himself, or collected on his worldwide musical travels! As an ever-evolving musician Andy will also share recent ideas and approaches towards practising, listening and learning, all of which may be easily adapted to fit in with your schedule.

Andy's mission statement about the weekend and what to expect

Over 30 years Andy has devoted a huge amount of time developing and crafting his Saxophone Days, Weekends and specialist Saxophone Courses. The focus is on ensemble playing, with no-one in the UK having more experience of Saxophone Ensemble composing/performing/recording than Andy (SaxAssault/Group S, London Saxophonic, Apollo Saxophone Orchestra, RNCM Saxophone Orchestra).

“Through experience and trial and error, I like workshops to be music led. If we encounter moments where our techniques don’t enable us to play the music that is in our minds then we’ll stop and figure it out! What we are also doing with this approach is self-teaching, setting ourselves up to be able to practise effectively and efficiently when alone, and after all time is limited in our lives so let’s make the most of our practise!

Everything is relaxed when rehearsing on the weekend course, after all we all love music and simply want to enjoy ourselves. We can do this, by working hard and opening our ears and minds, enjoying working with like-mined saxophonists and taking away lots of ideas!! People talk about ‘fun’…… for me fun means satisfaction, a sense of achievement, music making to be proud of :-)” Andy Scott
