On Sunday 14th September 2025 AB Workshops introduces the Solo Over Dance Music workshop with Chez Taylor.

Chez Taylor has an addiction to dance, jazz, funk and soul. Doubling sax with flute, and clarinet has led her to play such main stages as Wembley Stadium (London), The NIA (Birmingham), Newton’s Nation (Australia), Alliance Francaise (Zambia) and many more. Her performances have been acclaimed by the likes of The British Arts Council and The BBC.

Playing level: As a guide, you’ll need an instrumental ability of Grade 2 standard or above.

Chez’s workshop makes improvisation approachable for all saxophonists, focusing on the rising trend of saxophone use in dance music across genres like House, EDM, and Garage. By teaching participants how to quickly identify song keys and select appropriate notes, the session opens up creative opportunities for both seasoned players and beginners, regardless of their affinity for dance music, making it a perfect entry point into the world of improvisation.

A bit about Miss Chez

Globe trotter:

Throughout her career, Chez has been fortunate to collect passport stamps from all over the world; from Bruges to Botswana, Turkey to Thailand, Dubrovnik to Dubai and countless other destinations.

On Stage:

Chez has been lucky to support some fantastic artists such as Jools Holland, Nile Rogers, Jaz Dhami, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Thunder, Tony Hadley, Shane Richie and Gareth Gates, as well as leading record labels such as Hed Kandi and Sony Music.

Out of the spotlight:

Off stage, she has premiered works by Michael Nymann on BBC Radio 3 and jammed alongside Seasick Steve on Radio 2.

Behind the scenes, Chez is a devoted sax tutor as well as working with the reputable charity, Music in Hospitals, playing for patients all over the UK and featuring her performance experiences on BBC Radio 4. She can also be found beneath the stage, playing in the pit for various popular musicals in central London.

Geek Chic:

On her home turf in London, Chez has managed to acquire quite a few letters after her name, including dipABRSM Teaching alongside a Licentiate in Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Proving to be somewhat of a qualification junkie, she is now preparing to sit her Fellowship Diploma in Musical Performance.

Arty moments:

Chez writes and arranges music for her many bands & ensembles. In the composition world, Chez has written for online games companies, news corporations and the Edinburgh Film Festival, to name a few, as well as releasing material with her bands on iTunes.

Participant Information

As an approximate guideline; be able to play around Grade 2 standard. Please note, this does not mean you need Grade 2 qualification, it means your current playing level should be of this standard or better.

Regardless of your current level, we here at AB Workshops are committed to providing tuition and support at a pace that allows you to absorb salient points while good progress and motivation is maintained.

What do we mean by “grades” as a measuring tool? We use the ABRSM/Trinity “classical” syllabus, but in most respects this applies to the Jazz grades as well. If you haven’t taken any grades then please contact us to discuss suitability.
– Saxophone
You will need to bring your own instrument and instrument stand as well as a music stand.
Price for this half day workshop is £40.
Refreshments; Tea, coffee (including freshly made filter coffee), juices, a variety of biscuits, fresh pastries.

A hot lunch is included if you choose that option when making the booking (including requirements such as vegetarian, gluten intolerance etc).
Times for the workshop are as follows:

Arrive: 1.30pm onwards (only applies if you’re not on the morning session as well)
Session one: 2pm – 3.15pm
Afternoon break: 3.15pm – 3.45pm
Session two: 3.45pm – 5pm
