What’s the Workshop Going to Be About?

This weekend will introduce you to the infectious grooves and raucous fun of New Orleans street band music. From the traditional jazz-influenced ’Second Line’ tunes made famous in NOLA funerals to modern funky tunes by bands such as Hot8 Brass Band and ReBirth Brass Band. Amongst other things, the workshops will explore; feel and groove; texture and ensemble playing; soloing and creating counter-melodies on the fly; an introduction to famous repertoire and much more!

Dan Mar-Molinero says….”The workshop will comprise approximately 40% ‘blowing’ (playing by ear), a mixture of soloing and coming up with backings, and 60% ‘reading’. The dots are quite loose in this music, so they’re really a guide rather than a certainty.”

We also plan on organising a gig with the full 7 piece band for an evening performance with participant inclusion. Watch this space 🙂

Dan Mar-Molinero is a musician, composer, producer and educator. He runs several bands including his own 18-piece jazz orchestra. He also works frequently as a session musician both in the UK and abroad with acts that span the world of jazz, pop and rock. He is also an active composer and producer. His work includes hit records including a UK Top 3 and Top 20 Albums both in the UK, the US and worldwide.

American drummer, Ted Carrasco, is in constant demand in the UK, Europe and the USA. In addition to extensive touring in countries such as Japan, USA, Spain, France, Switzerland and Italy, he has played at many of the country’s top venues including Ronnie Scott’s, The Roundhouse, The 606, Dingwalls and Band On The Wall (Manchester). Recently Ted has had the pleasure of touring with Gilad Atzmon’s Orient House Ensemble as well as performing with the likes of Paul Jordanous (Rag & Bone Man), Lewis Allen (Sam Smith/Liam Payne) and many others.

Neil Doherty works as a freelance Trumpet Player, Educator, Arranger and Musical Director in around the South Coast of England. Equally at home with most genres of music ranging from Pop, Jazz, Classical, Funk, Rock ‘n Roll, he is regularly seen playing with various artists, ensembles, touring shows, big bands and orchestras. He also works as a peripatetic teacher around Hampshire.
