Derek Nash Saxophone Weekend – TBA 2023

Derek Nash, sax man extraordinaire of Jools Holland fame is coming to AB Workshops on TBA 2023. Derek will be running a two day workshop, with sessions on improvisation and chart reading. A fantastic opportunity for sax players to work with one of the UK’s top saxophonists, leader of the award-winning Sax Appeal and featured member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

Derek Nash is “one of the most versatile saxophonists in the UK today” (The Guardian), and always impresses with his moving, energetic and soulful performances no matter whether it’s on the baby soprano to the huge sound of his baritone playing. Winner of the John Dankworth and British Jazz Awards, Best Jazz CD award, and was nominated for Jazz Musician of the Year by the Global Music Foundation. Derek also keeps very busy playing with the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, is a featured soloist and has played at places such as the Cardiff Millennium Stadium and Glastonbury Festival.

Derek will help you demystify the saxophone, showing you how to improve your tone and technique and how to improvise effortlessly. You only need to hear Derek play to be inspired. Regardless of genre; pop, jazz, rhythm & blues, funk, Derek does it all seamlessly and with great charisma. In demand and popular, Derek will give you the skills to sound like a pro and tell you what you need to know to work in the real world of music.

Based at St Leonards Hotel in beautiful Dorset, with excellent facilities. Priced competitively at £150 for two days including a hot lunch, hot and cold refreshments. We cater for needs such as vegetarian, gluten intolerance etc. The workshop runs from 10am – 4.30pm each day, with two 30 minute breaks and a 1 hour lunch break. FREE parking.

Participant information:

As an approximate guideline; be able to play around Grade 4 standard. Please note, this does not mean you need Grade 4 qualification, it means your current playing level should be of this standard or better.
You will need to bring your own instrument, instrument stand, and music stand.
The cost of this workshop for two days is only £135.
We provide a hot lunch each day and hot/cold refreshments for the breaks including freshly made filtered coffee.
Times for the workshop are as follows:

Arrive: 9.30am onwards
Session one: 10am – 11.15am
Morning break: 11.15am – 11.45am
Session two: 11.45am – 1pm
Lunch: 1pm – 2pm
Session three: 2pm – 3pm
Afternoon break: 3pm – 3.30pm
Session four: 3.30pm – 4.30pm
